CASE STUDYUbiquity Ventures
How a solo GP scaled institutional-grade finance support without adding headcount
THE CHALLENGE
Ubiquity Ventures is a seed-focused venture firm founded in 2017. By early 2023, the firm had launched Fund III and was stewarding a growing platform of portfolio companies and LP relationships, with approximately $200 million in AUM across three funds and 45 companies.
Founder and Managing Partner, Sunil Nagaraj, was spending too much time on compliance, payments, and vendor management—tasks that pulled focus from investing and founder relationships. At the same time, the regional bank turmoil in early 2023 surfaced new scrutiny around controls and vendor oversight. He wanted a finance partner that could deliver institutional-level rigor, strategic insight, and operational execution, and could also be trusted to handle critical details independently.
No other vendor around Ubiquity can do what Strut does. They bring a high-quality bar, trust, and real-world experience—the ‘I’ve seen this five times before’ type of experience—and that gives me tremendous confidence.

How We Helped
Built a unified finance/operations calendar covering all payments, filings, audits, tax, and fund events with owners and lead times.
Implemented controls for franchise taxes, state fees, and regulatory payments with advance reminders, approvals, and evidence retention.
Drove audit and tax workbacks end-to-end, including PBC lists, status tracking, and issue resolution with third-party providers.
Reviewed and verified cash movements for capital calls, distributions, and operating expenses before release.
Standardized documentation, reconciliations, and sign-offs to ensure accuracy and a transparent audit trail.
Prepared LP-facing financial materials, aligning figures across decks, notices, and the data room ahead of the annual LP meeting.
Enhanced portfolio management visibility by introducing consistent financial reporting and performance tracking.
The Outcome
IMPACT & VALUEWithin the first few months, Ubiquity moved from reactive tracking to proactive control. Deadlines were met early, penalties were avoided, and the finance function ran on a shared, visible timeline the entire team could trust.
For Nagaraj, the shift unlocked time and focus for what matters most: investing and founder relationships. With assurance that every filing, payment, and reconciliation had been handled, he could redirect attention to finding great investments, helping them grow, and engaging with LPs.
The result is a finance cadence that supports stronger decision-making, higher confidence with LPs, and a scalable platform for future funds.
Strut has now become such a critical layer of Ubiquity that I couldn’t imagine growing the firm without them. They’re the traffic router, the overseer, the second set of eyes, the advisor.
